If you're anything like us, you're probably still recovering from the amazing weekend of melanin and music that was #OMF2018. However, there has been so much great music dropping lately we had to highlight the hottest recent releases from some of our favorite artists. Check out the Sep 2018 edition of OMF #NewMusicMonday below and add its official Spotify playlist to your library A-S-A-P!
Noname - “Self”
Noname asks, “Y'all really thought a b**** couldn’t rap, huh?” They really did Noname, and they were dead wrong. One of the brightest stars in hip-hop is back with another masterpiece in Room 25. This album is a must-listen. Clear your calendar, grab some wine, press play and thank us later.
6lack ft. Future - “East Atlanta Love Letter”
Six Lack, Slack, 6 Black, whatever you want to call him…6lack is back with the follow-up to his Grammy nominated debut “Free 6lack.” 6lack is one of the most consistent artists in the new school of hip-hop, and unlike the Falcons he doesn’t let the city down with this project. The East Atlanta gods answered our prayers and blessed us with the somber, slow-burning title-track “East Atlanta Love Letter" featuring Future. If 6lack’s Magic City pop-up in LA is any indication, he will be putting on for the city for years to come.
T.I. feat. Meek Mill - “Jefe”
The King of Atlanta, T.I., is not relinquishing the throne anytime soon. His new track “Jefe" featuring Meek Mill, produced by legendary beat-maker Bangladesh, is the perfect anthem for rap royalty, and trap muzik inventor T.I. Y’all better not sleep on the king. His next album looks like it will extend his reign for quite some time.
Masego - “Lady Lady”
Okay, who is this Masego kid and why are we just now getting hip to him?? Apparently he’s been dropping dope music with some of our favs like Xavier Omar and SiR for some time. Sorry for being late to the party (you know how we do…) but Lady Lady is a groovy gem, and we are putting him in rotation from here on out.
YBN Cordae - “Target”
Everybody has something to say about YBN Cordae since his viral video response to J. Cole’s 1985, “Old N*ggas.” Our team was pretty split early on, but no way to deny this young man at this point. He can spit, he has dope hooks, and his buzz is only getting bigger from here.
Juice Wrld & Lil Uzi Vert - “Wasted”
Quiet as it’s kept, we’re big fans of the new generation of artists making waves on Soundcloud, Spotify and the new streaming platforms. Juice Wrld caught our ear with his breakthrough hit “Lucid Dreams” and seeing him link with fellow rockstar Lil Uzi Vert on turn-up track “Wasted" is just what the doctor told us not to do.
J.I.D - “151 Rum”
J.I.D. is NOT playing with y’all today! I don’t know what spirit has possessed this man to be rapping so violently, but we’re clutching our pearls thinking about the forthcoming lyrical assaults on his next project “Dicaprio 2”
Jessie Reyez - “Body Count Remix”
If you missed Jessie Reyez’s #OMF2018 performance, bless your heart. This woman is a force to be reckoned with. She dodges d*** on the daily, and teams up with fellow sheroes Normani and Kehlani for the Body Count Remix.
Elhae - “Objects In the Mirror, Mac Miller Tribute”
“He’s gonna be bubbling real soon!”…words from OMF Founder J. Carter after Elhae headlined part one of our showcase series “The Warm Up.” Elhae is selective with his releases, but drops an amazing loosie in tribute to the late Mac Miller. Yo Elhae, what’s good with your next project though?!
Jorja Smith - “On Your Own”
There's just something about Jorja Smith. Some say it’s sex appeal, but damn she makes dope music. Her release “I Am” on the Black Panther Soundtrack is a personal favorite, and her latest video for “On Your Own” is a work of art worth your time.
Young Thug ft. Jaden Smith - “Sin”
Young Thug is one of the biggest enigmas in hip-hop who is just as likely to drop a new record with Elton John as he is to stop releasing music all together. Lucky for us the former is the case here as he drops his “On the Rvn” EP late Sunday night. A lot of standout tracks, but Thug links with fellow icon living Jaden Smith on the banger “Sin.” Hopefully Thug won’t have to be on the rvn for too long, and definitely hope to hear him and Jaden on more tracks.
Wale ft. J. Cole - “My Boy (Freestyle)”
Last but not least, one of the most underrated in the game, Wale, returns to let you know he’s still in his luggage. The entire Free Lunch EP is solid gold, but the J. Cole assisted freestyle “My Boy” confirms that Wale can still go to toe-to-toe with anyone in his class.
