Kaytranada at ONE Musicfest 2017

A handful of dope SoundCloud remixes is all it took to launch ONE Musicfest 2017 performing artist, Kaytranada, into the musical stratosphere.

Louis Kevin Celestin, known by his stage name Kaytranada, is a Haitian-Canadian DJ and record producer. He’s responsible for such hits as The Internet’s “Girl” and Chance The Rapper’s “All Night.” His debut album “99%” features Anderson .Paak, Craig David and Vic Mensa.

Celestin began his career under the name Kaytradamus in 2010. He released two projects as Kaytradamus before changing his name to ‘Kaytranada’ in 2012. Kaytranada has released a total of thirteen projects and forty-one remixes. Kaytranada has toured more than 50 Canadian, American, European and Australian cities.

Since the age of fourteen, when he first began to DJ his output has been relentless. “After he showed me the basics, from that day on I couldn’t stop making beats,” he says. Kaytranada began pumping out a beat a day for the next couple of years and self-released a series of EPs and beat tapes that quickly began to expand his reach. Official releases on HW&W and Jakarta Records spread his name like wildfire and some instant-classic remixes by the likes of Missy Elliot, Janet Jackson, TLC, Danny Brown and others have cemented his reputation and his sound.

Here’s a list of a few of our favorite Kaytranada remixes:

  1. Teedra Moses “ Be Your Girl”
  2. Solange “ Cranes in the Sky”
  3. Janet Jackson “ If”
  4. Missy Elliott “ Sock It 2 Me”
  5. Jill Scott “ Its Love”
  6. Erykah Badu “ Love Of My Life “
  7. Common “ I Want You”
  8. A Tribe Called Quest “ Oh My God”

Did any of your favorites make this list?  Be sure to get your ONE Musicfest tickets asap to catch Kaytranada, Jill Scott, Jidenna, Yasiin Bey, Damian Marley, Sean Paul, and more!

ONE Musicfest is as much of a cultural event as it is a music festival. Fans of all different backgrounds come out to listen to the hottest artists in the most fly outfits they can come up with, and OMF 2016 was no exception. Tribal prints were seen often, the headwear game was stronger than ever, and accessories were used to add additional flair to each outfit. Keeping comfort and ease in mind, here are some of the most fashionable moments from ONE Musicfest 2016 to help inspire your 2017 outfit.

The Best Looks from ONE Musicfest 2016

Inspired by the 90’s, this fan is rocking a statement outfit for sure. The ripped denim, fuzzy bikini top, and visor combo is nothing short of amazing. She completes her look with some fun face jewels and hoops for daaaaays, take note cause she just SLAYED.

This is one hip-looking couple right here. Piercings and tattoos are, not only welcomed but encouraged at ONE Musicfest. And don’t forget your watch so you don’t miss your favorite artist.

Anderson Paak is known for his funky beats, energetic performances, and style. He killed the stage before he even stepped on with this outfit. Stripes, dots and tribal prints are a staple seen around OMF so don’t be afraid to take your boldest shirts out of the closet this year.

This trio is truly untouchable. Black on black is never a bad idea, a flowy breezy white sundress will keep you cool all day, and a fun jumper with crazy cut-outs is genius, all finished with comfortable shoes for dancing all day long. Do you think you and your crew can one up these three?

One of the most important things you can do for yourself at ONE Musicfest is wearing comfortable shoes. It is one long day of walking, standing, dancing, jumping and running all around Lakewood. It’s safe to say this little lady has the most fly kicks in the festival, and that jumpsuit isn’t too bad either.

And never forget to show off where you come from and who you are.

Goddess is all there is to say. Braids, beads, and blue lipstick, you really can’t go wrong with that look. But her confidence is the sexiest thing about this picture, wear something that makes you feel as great as you look.

Stic.man from Dead Prez and his wife, Afya Ibomu, are doing everything right. Mom’s rocking a tie up crop top with a leather skirt and dad and son are styled in some funky tribal, and don’t overlook the little chain on stic’s kid — toooo cute!

Your Turn To Slay Is Coming

ONE Musicfest 2016 was full of great performances and great fashion and this year will be no exception. Some helpful tips when putting together your outfit: comfortable shoes are a must, jewelry can really take your look to the next level, try to incorporate your bag into your outfit for a complete look, and most importantly, BE CONFIDENT! If you are comfortable in your outfit it’ll show on the outside. Never be afraid to flaunt what you got and KNOW you look good doing it.

8 Tips for Surviving ONE Musicfest 2017

Posted on

So, you’re planning to rock out with us at ONE Musicfest!  If this will be your first time experiencing ONE Musicfest, there are some things you should do in advance to prepare yourself.  Our event holds 11 hours of non-stop music, two music stages, three DJ stages, a food truck village, merchant vendors, live artists’ gallery and sponsor activations! Grab your tickets and read below for eight tips to make the most of your experience:

1) Plan ahead for the best OMF experience possible. Make a game plan for which artists you want to see. There will be multiple artists performing, some simultaneously, so you have to know when and where they are going to play. Some artists on your list may have performance times that are close together, so plan to leave one stage a little early to catch the next performance. Planning ahead will ensure that you see each desired artist.

2) Get a Map and the OMF App. A map of Lakewood Amphitheatre will be your new best friend at the festival. From our app, you will know where everything is from bathrooms, stages, food trucks and merchandise. Download the ONE Musicfest app for a venue map, performance schedules, and up-to-the-minute updates.  It is a helpful tool to help you get the most out of ONE Musicfest!

Android Download | Mac OS Download

3) Get there early. If you arrive at the venue early, you can peep the scene, pick out the best spot on the lawn, or pit, beat the crowds in food and drink lines, and check out the merchants before it gets too busy. OMF has AMAZING live artists painting throughout the festival so be sure to check them out.

4) Sunglasses, Hats, and Sunscreen. Please, please protect yourself from the elements. Hats.  Shades.  Towels.  Visors.  Sunscreen – all good ideas.  Atlanta is called Hotlanta for a reason! Besides, a cute hat and the right pair of sunnies will complete your look.  We will have roaming photographers on site, so you better look fly for the paparazzi!

5) Comfortable Shoes and Clothing.  You will walk A LOT. Wear your Fitbit and break all sorts of records. Of course, you want to look cute, so prepare your outfit in advance. Comfortable shoes, as well as, clothing with loose, breathable fabrics and are advised to help keep cool from the summer heat.

6) Water. Hydrate.  Hydrate.  Hydrate.  You cannot bring any outside beverages to the festival, but if you purchase a bottle of water from the concessions area you can refill it for FREE all day!  You cannot drink too much water at ONE Musicfest.  Anyway, it’s the perfect accompaniment to the delicious food and “grown-up drinks” we’re mixing up for you.

7) Portable phone charger. Charge up that sucker overnight. When your phone battery is low you’re going to need that portable charger.  You don’t want to have to stop taking video, photos, and selfies just because your phone died. I mean, if you attend ONE Musicfest and didn’t Snapchat, Facebook or Instagram it, did you really attend?  There will be a few charging stations throughout the festival as well. Winning!

8) Cash.  Cash is always a good idea for an event like this. All vendors and food trucks accept cards, but cash makes every transaction go quicker!

7 Facts You Did Not Know About Anderson .Paak

7 Facts You Did Not Know About Anderson .Paak

1. Anderson .Paak is 30 years old

1

Although some would confuse Anderson .Paak for a graduating senior, .Paak recently turned 30 in February. Born and raised in California, this XXL Freshman, has made quite some noise in the hip-hop scene over the past year. Standing out in the wave of artists, that is the LA scene, has not proved to be easy for most, but this 30-year-old has finally broke through the barrier between irrelevance and stardom.

2. .Paak is Dre’s Newest Protege

4

.Paak’s singing, rapping, drumming, and producing caught the ear of some important figures on the west coast. Dr. Dre has a knack for discovering hidden talent, and .Paak has proved to be the latest diamond in the rough. Featured on 6 songs of Dre’s latest album ‘Compton’, his warm, strained voice, with hints of Sam Cooke, surely raised the ears of music lovers naive to his sound.

3. Anderson is Family Man

5

.Paak has a five-year-old son named Soul Rasheed, and a beautiful wife from South Korea.

4. Anderson .Paak was formerly known as Breezy Lovejoy

3

Before re-branding, .Paak went by the name of Breezy Lovejoy. Under that name, he released 2 albums, ‘O.B.E Vo. 1′(Out of Body Experience) and ‘Lovejoy’ in 2012. His music was all over the place, and he decided to focus on fine-tuning his skill under the name of Anderson .Paak. He says the dot in front of his surname is to remind himself, as well as others, to pay attention to detail; everything has a purpose, and nothing should go unnoticed.

5. .Paak previously was Weed Farmer

7

.Paak spent his weekdays crafting and performing as Breezy Lovejoy, and on weekends he and his wife worked on a pot farm in Santa Barbara. Things were going okay for a while; he was making music, getting by, and raising his newborn son. But, life came to a sudden stop when he lost his job at the farm and was forced to be homeless with his family. Singer-producer Shafif Husayn took .Paak in and helped him develop his music while times were tough. The rest is history.

6. Drumming was his first love

.Paak began playing drums at the age of 11, and ended up drumming for American Idol contestant Hayley Reinhart gaining the recognition he has today.

7. He already released 2 Albums

venicemalibu

.Paak has released 2 albums since 2014, ‘Venice’ and ‘Malibu’. ‘Venice’ showed hints of brilliance, but it was sporadic and lacked a sense of direction, bouncing from smooth jazz to trap and everything in between. ‘Malibu’, his second album, was more focused and really told his story in a way that exuded positivity and sonic brilliance. Mixing influences of jazz, soul, and funk, .Paak created a boom bap style with rhythm and cadence some would describe as a Kendrick Lamar that could sing.
